Todra Gorges
Nestled in the atmospheric space of the High Atlas Mountains, Todra Gorges is a series of limestone canyons where the adventurous spirit of Morocco comes to life. It forms massive passageways tucked between towering rock walls. With its stateliness and raw beauty, it leaves visitors in admiration. In the previous centuries, the region was out of sight and served as a remote ravine near the town of Tinerhir. Yet, it didn’t take too long for the canyon to catch the attention of travelers. Soon, Todra Gorges became a popular spot for a taste of the great outdoors
Gradually shaped by the rivers Todgha and Dades, the valley seems as if it has been in slumber for thousands of years. However, as you trek along the river basin, you will see that nature is still in full force. Veil-like waters flow serenely where you take a step. Sudden flashes of wildlife are a feast for the eyes. Throughout spring and summer, the canyon has an exuberant atmosphere as mules, climbers, and hikers roam the dirt roads.
Come late winter to early spring, all traces of the living are washed down under rigorous currents. The rivers have fed the spectacular palm grove of the Todra Valley for ages. The result is a marvelous oasis. In its refreshing shade, you will witness the fertility that has provided food and shelter for many generations of Berber tribes.
