Minneriya
In the legendary Minneriya National Park, nature has its own agenda of ceremonial events. Once-in-a-lifetime spectacles will sweep you off your feet. Take a trip to this wild playground between April and October, and you will be a guest at the world’s most spectacular gathering. Over 300 elephants bathe in the ponds, rolling over the grass, and friskily socializing with each other all around. Located at the center of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park is the favorite stop for the migrating elephants en route to their next destination. The receding water provides excellent resources for their feeding and breeding activities. As for wildlife enthusiasts, there is no better time to watch these playful creatures.
The rich flora of the park adds to its invigorating character. It provides life sources for a breathtaking variety of animal species aside from elephants. As you safari down the major routes, you will come across macaques, buffalos, deers, colorful birds, and daunting reptiles. Although very rare, a sight of the elegant leopards known to roam free in the park might also be just around the corner. Two things are never short in supply in Minneriya National Park: thrilling wildlife sightings and a whole lot of adventure.
