Ifrane

Set at an altitude of over 1,600 meters in the Middle Atlas Mountains, the hill station of Ifrane has its origins in the hollows of the valley. Modern times caught up with the town almost fifty years ago. As a result, Ifrane flourished into a popular mountain resort for travelers. Today, it has a European vibe to it with snowy-white houses, ski resorts, and a Scandinavian tidiness. But, the primal innocence of village life abides in the caves and among the shady workshops scattered around. 

Ifrane is famous for its cold and crisp weather that brings many snowy days. Having seen its potential, the French designed the town in minimalist Alpine-style architecture, sparing no effort to make it feel like home. Much room was left in the spacious parks for the fauna and flora to thrive. There, you will have delightful encounters with Barbary monkeys and crimson-colored endemic birds. In these secluded woodlands, water springs around every corner. An evocative fragrance emanating from the oldest cedar forests of North Africa makes the scene all the more fascinating.

Ifrane is all about pastoral admiration, but a splash of Moroccan culture exists in the town’s souq. As local artisans carry on weaving vivid patterns on carpets and carving out fascinating shapes in the Thuya wood shops, you will reunite with the colorful spirit of Morocco once again.
