As you start prepping for your next travel adventure, being more eco-friendly when travelling is probably one of the last things you’re thinking about.  As the tourism industry and our love of travel increases, so does the impact travel has on the environment. But the great news is, it’s very easy to reduce your carbon footprint and create a greener world, even whilst exploring its beauty.
See our top 6 ways to be eco-friendly and do your bit to keep the Earth cleaner and greener on your travels.
1. Pack a reusable water bottle
Using a reusable water bottle has to be one of the simplest things to do whilst travelling. So much plastic ends up in landfill, forests and oceans rather than being recycled. So if the tap water is safe to drink, why not ditch the plastic and use a reusable water bottle instead.
2. Use public transport or even better walk
Jump on public transport as it uses far less fuel per passenger rather than a car or taxi. Even better, why not walk or take a bike? It’s one of the best ways to explore and experience a new city, and it definitely the most greenest option.
3. Eat local
Purchase local food and drinks, and you’ll be supporting local businesses as well as cutting down on the transportation needed for the products to get to you. Also one of the best parts about travelling is trying new foods so really it’s a win-win!
4. Leave only footprints
As clichés as it sounds, you should leave no trace of you visiting any location, and leave only footprints. Even better why not make it look better than you found it by picking up rubbish or plastic so it doesn’t end up in our oceans!
5. Say no to plastic
Do you really need that straw to consume your drink? Or do you really need a plastic bag when you could just carry the item in your backpack or hands? Try to minimise the amount of plastic you need to use, the environment will thank you for it.
6. Treat your hotel like your home
Just cause you’re not paying the bills doesn’t mean you should go crazy with your water and electricity usage. Try to turn off the lights and plug devices you’re not using, take shorter showers or don’t request new towel and sheets every day. Every little bit helps.
