A second to the magnificent Hierapolis in Pamukkale, Asklepion boasts all-things Roman and poses as one of the most revered healing resorts of the ancient world. It was modeled after the medical centers of Ancient Greece. Dedicated to a mythological doctor-demigod, Asklepion once treated the gladiators of Pergamum. Today, the remnants of a thriving city with a library, a temple, medical centers, baths, and mineral pools welcome visitors.

Head out from the entrance through the colonnaded road, and you will reach the picturesque sanctuary of Asklepion. Mythological symbolism is what makes the ruin complex so soulful. At the sanctuary, a column with snake carvings on its base is the highlight spot for photography among travelers. The symbol of Asclepius, the Greek god of healing, the snake has survived through time in the badge of medicine. Also renowned as the world’s first psychiatric hospital, Asklepion has lured countless pilgrims with the promise of spiritual and physical healing. Down the path meandering through a myriad collection of ruins, you will stumble across a gorgeous Roman theatre and library. Baths and pools dot the land surrounding them, lending the site a refreshing feel with a splash of water among the rocks.
