Cu Chi Tunnel
Brimming with the eccentric remains of war, Cu Chi Tunnel is, by all means, thought-provoking.
Burdened by the poignant war history of Vietnam, Cu Chi Tunnel meanders beneath Saigon in a network of subterranean passageways. They are part of a larger system that covers almost the entire country, attracting visitors with several remnants of the Vietnam war. With a guided tour, the tunnels will reveal the mysteries surrounding the inhumane conditions faced by Viet Cong soldiers along with the strategic functions of trap doors, booby traps, and many other structural elements. Cu Chi Tunnel shelters the memory of Vietnam’s most important historical event.
Much of the tunnels were enlarged to accommodate tourists. Still, you will feel a mild sense of claustrophobia knocking on your door in a short trip below the earth. Although their function was to provide safe passage from war, Vietnamese soldiers had to remain underground for days during bombings.
Scattered across the site are conference rooms that once hosted military campaigns. Today, they serve as shady stops for visitors to take in the profound atmosphere. If you wish to get a more realistic sense of what went down below the earth in the late 60s, there is a shooting range in Chu Chi. There, you can fire machine guns for the price of a small fortune.
