Grabrok Volcano
Grabrok Volcano is the largest crater in the volcanic fissure of Ljósufjöll, expanding in western Iceland with an adventurous invitation. Seen from a distance, it appears innocuous and quiet. And sure enough, there hasn’t been an eruption in the region for thousands of years. Yet, restless and living earth beneath these sleepy lands manifests itself in the form of water streams coming from the lava here and there. Located right next to the famous Golden Circle route of Iceland, Grabrok is an enticing destination for those who wish to experience the dramatic landscape from a different perspective.
It takes 40 minutes to find yourself at the top of this 170-meter volcanic mountain with a scenic hike. Once you reach the summit, you will witness a matchless view of Ljósufjöll. The site is 90 kilometers in length, which makes it one of the longest fissure systems in the country. As you enjoy the aftertaste of light exercise, watch the entire lava land lying beneath your feet, stretching out into the horizon in a tranquilizing stillness. Undoubtedly, Grabrok offers a break from the rest of the country that is ever in motion.
